Studio on the Street

Well, I have been away from my blog for far too long. Whenever this happens I always feel that an apology to my readers is in order. Sorry. I do mean to keep a steady stream of interesting ideas flowing into your living room/ cubicle/ coffee shop or wherever you computer is located. I think this is the last apology I will make though. Writing substantial and interesting posts can only happen when I have the time and inspiration to do so. In the interest of keeping the content rolling, if you (yes you) ever have an essay or article that you think would fit on my blog, I would be happy to post it. Email me: gabriel.craig@gmail.com.

Ok, so the real subject of this post. My first article for American Craft Magazine, Studio on the Street, is now on newsstands, so go out and buy it! I usually refrain from talking about my studio work, but I think this article deals with a lot of the issues I explore on conceptualmetalsmithing.com, specifically a thematic metalsmithing studio practice, the egalitarian appeal of jewelry, and subversive craft activities. I hope you enjoy it. There is also a .pdf version below.

More soon,
Comments welcome,
-Gabriel

I love the project, Gabriel! I read the article on the same day that I had been asked if I buy the parts of my jewelry and glue them together. Want to try it in NYC?

Thanks so much. I do want to take the project on the road, I need to figure out some logistics, but to answer your question, yes I would love to try it in NYC.
